The Sussex River Ouse is a varied and surprising river, especially where angling is concerned. It is famous for it's unusually large sea trout. The trout migrate from the sea (usually starting around June and September) to spawn upstream and provide great sport.
The river also holds a good amount of large pike (up to 32lb) and carp (again up to 32lb). In addition roach, rudd, chub, dace, perch, bream, tench and barbel can be found at selected spots. Even pumpkinseed and mullet can make an appearance. The river is quiet and often a day's fishing can pass by without meeting anyone but the occasional fisherman or dog walker.
As one recent guest from London put it: "I'm in fishing heaven here!".
The Anchor Inn provides special offer angling breaks, including:
What could be better than a hearty breakfast, a 30 second walk to the first weir, and then all day fishing topped by a pint or two (and perhaps a chat with the local fishermen), followed by a good sleep in a comfortable bed at Sussex's most famous waterside inn and country pub?
Please note that this offer is only valid during the river fishing open season, 16th June to the 15 March.
