Sadly, most supermarkets and wine shops are really only interested in wines that will maximise their profits, but give a poor return to their customers in bland, formulaic wines that fail to excite.

Michael Harris, the proprietor of The Anchor Inn, who has worked in the fine wine trade for 15 years, has produced a list of fine wines that are the produce of small growers in many of the world's great wine producing regions.

Singling out small producers has the benefit of ensuring that the wines you buy will not appear on a supermarket shelf, they are made solely for the private or fine restaurant trade and all are fine quality wines. We have assembled as fine a selection of wines as you will find in terms of quality in their price range and look to broaden our range on our next list.
